Janine Wanless, PhD, Director of IPI

Treating Challenging Couples:  Attachment, Addiction and Dual Diagnosis

Janine Wanlass, Ph.D., is a psychoanalyst and psychologist practicing in Salt Lake City, Utah, treating children, adults, couples, and families. She is the Director of the International Psychotherapy Institute in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She is a graduate of and teaching faculty for the International Institute of Psychoanalytic Training. Dr. Wanlass is a professor of psychology and counseling and former director of the Master of Science in Professional Counseling Program at Westminster College. She has authored a variety of articles and chapters related to couple therapy, including The Couple As Parents: The Role of Children in Couple Treatment (Karnac, 2014), The Intergenerational and Cultural Transmission of Trauma in Chinese Couple Relationships (Karnac, 2014), and Psychoanalytic Family Therapy: A Contemporary Object Relations Perspective (coauthored with David Scharff, M.D.,  in press).

Beginning in September, the 2015-2016 Master Speaker monthly video-conference seminars will feature presentations by IPI faculty and guest presenters, who will think together with participants about listening and interpretation. Participants may attend the seminars in person at sites in Chevy Chase, MD, Salt Lake City, UT, Indianapolis, IN, Long Island, NY and Lincoln, NE, or may join by telephone or videoconference from their own computer. Seminars take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Eastern Time, with additional group discussions to follow at some local sites. Contact IPI for further information on joining by telephone or video.

The Psychoanalytic Couple Therapy Course will focus on special topics and challenges in the practice of couple treatment, using presentations, case presentation and discussion, and advance readings. The course will feature presenters from the International Psychotherapy Institute and other colleagues from the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, England, Israel, Italy and Spain. Participants may join the course at several established videoconference sites including Chevy Chase, MD, Indianapolis, IN, Long Island, NY, Panama, Salt Lake City, UT, and Tel Aviv, Israel, or may join individually by videoconference, phone, or video streaming using their own computer, ipad or telephone (for more information contact info@theipi.org.
